Team Cooleiform
We’ll be bringing cuneiform, the oldest known writing system, to modern age by turning the heritage into jewellery and other cool accessories. Our art combines academic tradition with handicraft. We’ll be selling jewellery and accessories with various texts in Sumerian or Babylonian. Even though we’re dealing with real history and not actual sci-fi things, we are sure our art would be of interest to Worldcon visitors. We have organized several cuneiform workshops for adults and children and they have always attracted many people. For example, we had two popular workshops in Finnish role-playing convention Ropecon in 2016.

Tablet Weaving or Card Weaving is an ancient weaving technique where tablets or cards are used to create an infinity of beautiful patterns. Tablet woven bands are known to have been made in Europe from the Bronze Age up until medieval times. They are still made in parts of the world. The woven bands can be used among others as decoration of clothing, belts and straps.
Braids are created by interlacing strands. One of my favorite type of braids is the Japanese Kumihimo. First a form of finger-loop braiding, kumihimo are now made traditionally on a marudai or a kumihimo disk. The most prominent historical use of the cords was by samurai. They used the braids as a functional and decorative way to lace their lamellar armour.
Weaving, braiding and knotting are all handcrafts, not eyecrafts. One little special thing about me is that I am visually impaired.
